Role Models are men and women who are concerned about the challenges facing the modern family. And through personal experiences and heartaches, each one has found solutions to some of life's most difficult problems.
The 21st century family faces more challenges than any other people group in history. Yes there are conveniences like never before, but today's family also has the compounded nature of struggles, fractured homes and personal sufferings as no other generation gone by. These categories found here will help men and women along life's journey with practical insights, wisdom and balance.
Archbishop Gregory L Holley provides the direction and authorship for many inspirational articles about the issues of life. Deborah Ruppert, writes in the Categories of Sexual Assault and Abuse, and Divorce. She has experienced firsthand the catastrophic events strong enough to shatter any woman. She writes with honesty and frankness about how she overcame each of these monumental mountains in her life.
Gladys Owens, faithful pastor's wife for over 50 years. She became a widow and lost the love of her life, her church family and home overnight. Her stories about Grief and Self Image will warm any heart and provide encouragement for those who have suffered tremendous losses in life. She graduated to Heaven in 2010.
Heather Young, is a wife and a mom with 2 kids, as well as being a career woman. She experienced the sudden massive stroke of her husband, plunging her into a world of long term health care and the complete rebuilding of a husband with her constant care and wise efforts. She is strong, resilient and her experiences will help lift those in need of someone who also understands handicaps and hardships.
Susan Young and her husband Doug Young live in Los Banos, CA. They have four children: Anthony, Cassandra, Lauren and Charles. Together they founded Oasis Community Center (OCC) to reach people of their community through ministry.
Susan, a native Californian, has a heart for the people of Central California. Los Banos sits in Merced County, which is the poorest county in California. The need for the basic essentials and education are important in this area. Recently, they have partnered with Role Models of America (RMA) to open Oasis RMA Re-store, a thrift shop where they are able to those in need with dignity and honor. The thrift shop also helps missions globally.
In 2006 Susan founded Transforming Life Center 4 Women, a ministry for women with a heart for mentorship. Today TLC4Women not only mentors women of the community, but also women from many other denominations and local churches in their conferences and bible studies. In 2009 Susan started a scholarship fund, through her TLC4Women ministry, to send high school seniors to college. This has been a rewarding challenge and through a network of women in her community was able to give out the first award in May 2010.
As a stepmother to Lauren and Charles, Susan has learned through experience the special needs and concerns of stepmothers. Susan has taken her mentoring experience from her woman’s ministry along as her public speaking, writing and counseling experience, and has applied it to mentoring women who are called into the unique and special life of a stepmother. With divorce rates of over 75% in the US within first three years of marriage where stepchildren exist, Susan understands the great need these women have for some solid information. With the majority of marriages in the United States being second marriages, the church has a obligation to address the complexities these families face. By applying her experience in the area of step families, her prayer is to be able to shed light on this situation and offer a helping hand to hurting families showing them that there is a way to have a successful stepfamily.
